St. F.X. faculty calls for university president to quit - AARON BESWICK, Herald News
The St. Francis Xavier Association of University Teachers called for the resignation of the school’s president on Friday. “In no healthy university environment has a president served as long as Sean Riley,” association president Peter McInnis said. “We need leadership and he’s not providing it. He’s got to go.” The comments came after three of the school’s unions staged a protest against pending layoffs at the university. It has been announced that 17 members of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union, which represents 132 clerical, technical, library and administrative personnel, will be laid off. A further 35 positions — most from other unions though a few are non-unionized employees — will be eliminated through early retirement and voluntary leaving programs.
