EIU officials continue discussion on ways to cut $7M - SAMANTHA BILHARZ, Journal Gazette-Times Courier
Discussions continued on Friday for the Eastern Illinois University’s Council on University Planning and Budget on different avenues to cut $7 million in the university’s current appropriated budget over a two-year period. Cutting $7 million was the decision of Eastern President Bill Perry, who first spoke about it at the Council on University Planning and Budget (CUPB) meeting on Jan. 24. The CUPB is divided into three subcommittees: Student Affairs; Academic Affairs; and Business Affairs, President's area and University Advancement. The subcommittees are in charge of pinpointing where cuts should be made within the university. CUPB has been meeting since January to discuss the cuts. Perry said that the cuts are part of the university’s program analysis initiative for financial sustainability. The $7 million represents 6.7 percent of the university’s appropriated budget of $110 million. Cuts will start being made in Fiscal Year 2015 and will end in FY 2016.
