BIO USM considers closing 2 Gorham dorms - Mike Reagan, WMTW
Budget problems may force the University of Southern Maine to close two dormitories on its Gorham campus. Dickey and Wood halls are set to be closed because of the university's $14 million budget gap. The buildings have the capacity to house 350 students in both of them, but only 40 students are living in them now. USM officials said the move will save hundreds of thousands of dollars in maintenance and heating costs. "They're going to reassess their need for that space in the future over the next academic year and the decision will be made whether to take them down or not or rehab them," said Judie O'Malley, assistant director of public affairs for USM.
