President's email describes EIU budget cuts, KARSTEN BURGSTAHLER, JG-TC
After months of research, Eastern Illinois University officials have boiled budget cuts down to a list of bullet points they want to tackle to hit their target of $8 million in cuts. The points were included in an email from EIU President Bill Perry sent out to the university community Wednesday afternoon. Among the bullet points are several freezes, including a hiring freeze on all non-necessary personnel; a wage freeze beyond collective bargaining agreements increases such as merit raises; an evening of the staff-to-faculty ratio; and decreases in information technology expenditures of at least $500,000. The university will also look at reassigned faculty time.
