Richland College balances budget, despite hurdles - RACHEL RODGERS Herald and Review
Faced with the challenges of decreased enrollment, tax base and state funding, Richland Community College officials crafted a balanced budget totaling $39 million, about $8.5 million less than last fiscal year. The board of trustees unanimously approved the Fiscal Year 2015 plan Tuesday. After reaching record highs during the 2010 and 2011 fiscal years, enrollment has declined for the last three years. As enrollment is closely tied to the local business cycle and unemployment rate, it is common for the student population to decline about 6 percent for a year or two after times of peak enrollment, said Greg Florian, vice president of finance and administration.
