Central Michigan University approves budget for upcoming school year - Randi Shaffer, The Morning Sun
That equates to 495,000 student credit hours, both undergraduate and graduates on campus, said Barrie Wilkes, vice president of finance and administrative services. Wilkes said that last year’s freshman enrollment of 2,963 — much smaller than fall 2010’s record class of 4,100 — will continue to negatively affect the numbers. “If you look at the difference, that smaller class from last year keeps impacting us for the next three-plus years, whereas that really large class from fall 2010 is essentially gone now,” Wilkes said. “It will have a downward effect on our revenues going forward.” Wilkes said that the decrease in graduating high schoolers enrolling in Michigan colleges will likely continue, so CMU will need to widen its recruiting reach or adjust its size to meet the changing demographics.
