Meanwhile, the Board voted to approve the University’s new budget. Expenditures for the year totaled nearly $3.7 billion, a 2 percent increase over the previous year. Even with the increase, Winterbauer estimated that Rutgers would have to find $50 to 60 million in cuts and savings to stay within the budget. New Jersey, which recently passed its state budget, has allocated $796 million to Rutgers in total revenue, about the same amount as the previous year.
