Built In Better Times, University Labs Now Lack Research Funding - RICHARD HARRIS, NPR

When the National Institutes of Health budget doubled, some schools scrambled to build new laboratory buildings. But the funding has declined, leaving institutions struggling to pay for the buildings. American universities have seriously overbuilt their laboratory space. That is especially true for biomedical research. The National Science Foundation says there is 50 percent more lab space than a decade ago. The problem is there's been a sharp drop in funding to carry out research in those labs. NPR's Richard Harris reports from Charlottesville, Virginia. http://www.npr.org/2014/09/10/347305805/built-in-better-times-university-labs-now-lack-research-funding
