Presidents of public universities hiss at talk of state’s budget cuts - Danny Westneat, Seattle Times

When state officials asked the presidents of the public universities to model what another round of steep budget cuts would look like, they probably weren’t expecting the answer they got back. No. We won’t do it, the presidents said. “It’s idiotic,” Western Washington University’s outspoken president, Bruce Shepard, told me Tuesday. “If we go through this you’ll see students start fleeing, faculty taking other jobs. My obligation is to protect the quality of this university, so no, I’m not going along.” Can you do that — tell the governor and the Legislature to stuff it when they ask for a budget-cut list? http://seattletimes.com/html/localnews/2024501371_westneat10xml.html
