News gets worse for college – $4.2-M budget shortfall, enrollment still falling - David DeWitt, Athens News
The downward trend of enrollment numbers at Hocking College continues this fall, down 15 percent from last year and creating a $4.2 million to $4.7 million shortfall, officials told the Board of Trustees Tuesday night. While not specifically mentioning layoffs, officials did say that all areas of the college's budget would be impacted. During a meeting at the Hocking College Energy Institute in Logan, the Trustees reviewed figures that show a drop from 4,094 students at this time last year to 3,474 students this year. This is down from a peak of 6,599 students in fall 2010.
