Decreased state funding prevents faculty raises - Michael Ganzman, East Tennessean
ETSU was unable to provide salary increases for faculty and staff this year. University labor costs, which account for nearly three-fourths of ETSU’s total budget, have held steady since they were raised the year before. David Collins, vice president for finance and administration, said even though no employee salaries were increased this year, raises are important to the university’s budgetary considerations. “We would always like to enhance salaries, but it depends on how the funding goes,” Collins said. One of the most significant portions of salary funding comes from the state of Tennessee, which also pays more than one-third of ETSU’s total budget. The state did not reach its projected revenue this year, leading to certain cuts during the budget-making process. The decreased amount of annual revenue caused pay raises to be excluded in the final version of the budget.
