Final two music professors receive pink slips - HOWARD FRANK, Pocono Record
The remaining two full-time faculty members of East Stroudsburg University’s music department received their pink slips last week, effective at the end of the 2014-15 school year. The terminations are the final step in a retrenchment process to eliminate the university’s music concentrations, spokeswoman Brenda Friday said on Thursday. It was a painful decision, a part of deciding how to allocate limited funds in ways that benefit more students and the university's educational impact, university President Marcia Welsh said Thursday. "Over a four-year period, we had 12 music majors. Of those, they were broken out into three different concentrations. The cost of this was just off the scale. It was typically independent study, so students would basically be one on one with a full-time faculty member, she said."
