McGill struggles to cope with more budget cuts - Karen Seidman, Montreal Gazette

McGill University officials convened students and staff on Monday to discuss what has regrettably become a recurring theme at the cash-strapped university: how to cope with the latest round of budget cuts. Coming on the heels of cuts over the last two fiscal years, the latest round of unexpected cuts — announced by the Quebec government a quarter of the way through the current fiscal year, in September — has left all of the province’s universities scrambling to cut, cut, cut. Even worse, the Liberal government made it clear to universities that the cuts for fiscal 2015 aren’t over yet. More are coming by Christmas or even later to wreak havoc with budgets that were planned last spring, when promises of increased spending were still being bandied about. http://montrealgazette.com/news/local-news/mcgill-struggles-to-cope-with-more-budget-cuts
