Proposed SIU budget cut could hurt regional economy - Giacomo Luca, KFVS
Southern Illinois University System President Randy Dunn said in a March 12 statement that Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner's proposed budget could hit the regional economy by as much as $500 million. Dunn said the university generates dollars for each dollar of state support. Rauner's proposal to cut the university budget by 31.5 percent could inhibit the university from generating nearly $500 million and take more than $25 million away from state and local tax revenue. Dunn said the university would need to eliminate 700 jobs or 10 percent of jobs from its statewide campuses.
