Loyalist College confirms 27 layoffs - Emily Mountney-Lessard, The Intelligencer

The reduction of 27 Loyalist College staff was a “difficult but necessary” decision in creating a balanced school budget which the board of governors presented Thursday evening. The business plan has been prepared in response to a number of financial challenges the college has faced in recent years, particularly the 2014-2015 year, according to Mary Lynn Rutledge, chair of the finance, corporate service and governance committee. Maureen Piercy, college president and CEO, confirmed a total of 27 people have been laid off as part of the effort to prepare a balanced budget. Eighteen of those layoffs were announced in late March. Also announced in March was the suspension of student intake for three programs — Advertising and Marketing Communications, Broadcast Engineering Technology and Graphic Design. http://www.intelligencer.ca/2015/06/11/loyalist-college-confirms-27-layoffs
