Thomas speaks about upcoming year - Western Courier

Jack Thomas, president of Western Illinois University, gave the annual State of the University Address on Founders’ Day, Sept. 23.  Thomas went on to discuss the current budget crisis facing Western and other public colleges in the state.  “This university has faced difficult times in its history, and we have always risen to meet those challenges,” Thomas said. “The echoes of past excellence tell me that our university will endure these difficult times.”  According to Thomas, the crises has forced changes, such as eliminating operating funds and open positions, in order to fall in line with the budget issues..  “We reduced contracts for employees and we also transferred employees to local fund budgets,” Thomas said. “We are making the necessary changes so that we may continue to provide students with a quality and well-rounded education.”
