WIU Board of Trustees approves 3 percent reduction in undergrad tuition - Lainie Steelman, McDonough Voice

Western Illinois University is taking an unusual approach to attract students and boost enrollment. While most public universities regularly increase tuition or try to keep it flat, the WIU Board of Trustees on Friday approved a 3 percent reduction in new undergraduate tuition, effective with the 2016-17 academic year. Western President Jack Thomas' Student Cost Task Force Committee conducted a study on tuition costs before making the recommendation to reduce tuition. The 3 percent reduction means the tuition rate decreases by $8.80 per credit hour. Based on a 30 credit hour course load at $284.70 per credit hour, tuition for a new undergraduate will cost $8,541 annually. http://www.mcdonoughvoice.com/article/20151222/NEWS/151229846
