Rally at EIU over state budget draws 2,000 -Tom Kacich, News-Gazette

Gathered on the campus library Quad on a chilly, late Friday afternoon, about 2,000 people rallied to press Gov. Bruce Rauner and state legislators to pass a higher education budget and keep their university open. Because of a political standoff, no public colleges or universities in Illinois have received any state funding since the fiscal year began July 1. Eastern Illinois University administrators said earlier this week that layoff notices would soon be going out to about 200 civil service workers on the Charleston campus, and that other broader cost-cutting measures soon would follow. http://www.news-gazette.com/news/local/2016-02-05/rally-eiu-over-state-budget-draws-2000.html
