State budget cited in 40 percent cut on MAP grants at Lincoln College - Jessica, Lema, The Courier

Nearly 600 Lincoln College students were notified this week that 40 percent of their MAP grant awards will be cut for the current semester. According to the college, almost two-thirds of their students receive a Monetary Award Program grant this academic year at an average amount of more than $4,000 per person. Those awards are funded through the Illinois’ General Revenue Fund and processed through the State Comptroller’s Office and the Illinois Student Assistance Commission. With grant funds tied up in the state’s budget impasse, colleges across Illinois chose to cover the cost of those awards in the fall semester with the hope that a budget would be passed before year’s end and reimbursements could then be applied to students’ accounts. http://www.lincolncourier.com/article/20160127/NEWS/160129594
