Largest Cooperative Extension Service office will shutdown amid budget cut -Travis Khachatoorian, KTUU

The Anchorage Cooperative Extension Service (CES) is the latest program slated to be shutdown in the wake of widespread budget cuts at the University of Alaska. University employees were notified on Monday that the chancellor decided to cut funding to the Anchorage and Sitka CES offices, forcing the two locations to close their doors by Oct. 28. The 12 employees of the Anchorage office will mostly be transferred to various CES programs across the state. One will be laid off. According to University of Alaska Fairbanks spokesperson Marmian Grimes, about $1 million has been cut from the CES program for Fiscal Year ‘17. http://www.ktuu.com/content/news/Largest-Cooperative-Extension-Service-office-shutdown-amid-budget-cuts-380747691.html
