Illinois budget deal delivers relief, more uncertainty for higher education - Dan Petrella, Quad Cities Times

Sen. Chapin Rose, R-Mahomet, was part of the group that negotiated the deal. "It funds all three legs of the higher education stool: four-years, community colleges and also MAP grants for students," Rose said. He said the deal was possible because all the money involved comes from identified revenue sources, primarily two special funds dedicated to education. Although the funding guarantees that universities and community colleges will be able to operate through the fall, it does little to ensure the long-term stability of the state's beleaguered institutions of higher learning.
