Paine College officials say layoffs have been a possibility for months - WRDW

The ax came down earlier this week, but the decision has been on the table since February according to Chairmen Elect. Michael Thurmond. "We had been discussing this really since the end of last school year," said Thurmond. A statement sent out Tuesday says "affected staff were relieved of their duties immediately... " and "given two weeks salary with benefits." It also says "faculty members were given one month notice with salary and benefits." Thurmond says the administration notified faculty and staff over the last two weeks. Thurmond says the cuts saved the school 2 million dollars in savings that would generate over the next 12 months. http://www.wrdw.com/content/news/Paine-College-makes-staff-and-budget-cuts-to-strengthen-fiscal-woes-388948232.html
