Budget-starved U of I seeks 5-year funding commitment from Springfield- STEVEN R. STRAHLER, Crain's Chicago Business
The University of Illinois, which says state support has declined by about $750 million amid Springfield's budget woes, is looking to strike a deal with legislators: a five-year funding plan in exchange for annual report cards on graduation rates, financial aid and other metrics. U of I President Timothy Killeen told Crain's about the plan and, according to the Champaign News-Gazette, outlined it yesterday during a meeting with faculty members on the Urbana-Champaign campus. The university says the proposal will be considered next week at a trustees' meeting attended by key legislators.
