NMSU athletics budget cuts tops $1 million over past two years - Jason Groves , Las Cruces Sun-News

New Mexico State University has had to shave just more than $1 million from its athletic department budget in the past two years, a significant amount for a cash-strapped department at an institution struggling to make ends meet. And, unlike the state university to the north, athletics does not have the luxury of a main campus willing or able to pick up the slack for the 2016-17 year. Since the 2014-15 school year, the NMSU athletics budget has had $248,300 cut from state appropriations, $468,600 cut from tuition and fees and $454,301 cut from the instruction and general fund, which was originally designated to come after the elimination of the equestrian program before the program was saved for at least one more year over the summer. http://www.lcsun-news.com/story/sports/college/nmsu/2017/01/11/nmsu-athletics-budget-cuts-tops-1-million-over-past-two-years/93936282/
