U Oregon leads disaster funds push - Diane Dietz, The Register-Guard

Gov. Kate Brown included the $15 million in her 2017-19 budget proposal to establish a bond-paid grant fund that would dole out money for safety improvements such as security cameras, automatic door locks and mass notification systems. Brown’s budget is being scrutinized by the Legislature, which is in session through June. If Le Duc and the Campus Safety Work Group win legislative approval for the $15 million in Oregon Lottery-backed bond funds, colleges and universities will be able to apply for grants to pay for physical upgrades. Spread among dozens of institutions, the money would hardly be a windfall. And institutions might have trouble agreeing on what exactly to do with the cash. Colleges would have to apply to a yet-to-be named statewide resilience council, which would set the criteria and decide what projects got grant money. http://registerguard.com/rg/news/local/35105747-75/university-of-oregon-executive-leading-push-for-state-money-for-emergency-preparedness.html.csp
