Governors State University Approves Tuition Increase and Program Elimination - NWI Times

Governors State University's Board of Trustees on Friday hiked tuition by 15 percent and eliminated 22 programs amid a state budget impasse with no end in sight. The university's Board of Trustees voted on the changes Friday. Pat Ormsy, the board chair, said the tuition hike and program elimination were "difficult but necessary decisions," according to a university news release. For nearly two years, all Illinois public universities have been operating without a state budget due to the political gridlock in the Illinois statehouse. With Illinois' stopgap budget bills, GSU still faced a 70 percent cut in appropriations in fiscal year 2016 and a 50 percent cut in fiscal year 2017, according to a news release. http://www.nwitimes.com/news/local/illinois/governors-state-university-approves-tuition-increase-and-program-elimination/article_e0f52687-1962-567b-9d4b-47b2a3a0f6ff.html
