How do you fill a huge budget gap? UA President Matthew Wilson talks about financial challenges - Katie Byard, Beacon Journal

University of Akron President Matthew Wilson said he “walked into a bunch of turbulence” when he took over as head of the 23,000-student school roughly a year ago. He made this comment during a sit-down talk with Beacon Journal editors and reporters last week, reviewing how the university closed a $30 million budget gap. He also talked about future challenges: namely, the $29 million shortfall for the 2017-18 fiscal year that began July 1. Wilson didn’t offer specifics about the tumult that preceded his taking the helm.
