Is 2017-18 the year Penn State, Pitt, Temple and Lincoln universities become fully private? - Jan Murphy, Penn Live
Penn State, Pitt, Temple and Lincoln universities could become much more expensive for Pennsylvania students to attend going forward. Legislation that would send about $600 million in state funding to these four public universities, plus the University of Pennsylvania veterinary school, was left in the House's hopper of unfinished business when its members recessed on Wednesday until Oct. 16. That state funding is critical to the longstanding arrangement the commonwealth has with these schools that guarantees Pennsylvanians a lower in-state tuition rate. To get a sense of the difference that discount makes Penn State freshman attending the University Park campus pay $17,416 a year in tuition if they are state residents while an out-of-state student attending that campus pays $32,644.
