Augustana makes hard decisions with budget cuts - Josh Aldrich, Camrose Canadian
Defunding the Nordic team has caught most of the attention, but the budget cuts go far deeper at the University of Alberta-Augustana than the athletic department. The University of Alberta governors approved a four per cent cut to the operating budget for all faculties, including Camrose, on Friday. This has required Augustana Dean Allen Berger and his administration team to make some difficult decisions. "The effective impact is greater than four per cent because the faculties also have to absorb the costs of increases to employee salaries," said Berger. "Starting next year we will also be responsible for covering increasing costs in the benefits plan for our employees. Effectively what we're looking at for next year is somewhere between five and six per cent, not four per cent."
