Layoffs possible at Quincy College - Erin Tiernan, Patriot Ledger
Quincy College nursing program faculty members are at risk of layoff, as the college struggles to make up for millions in lost tuition because the state has shut down the program. The college’s two nursing programs had enrollment of 264 students, accounting for roughly a quarter of its total revenue, and Mayor Thomas Koch, acting school chief, said cuts will need to be made to offset the loss. Graduating students were allowed to take their state exams this year, but other students are transferring to different schools. “Fortunately we have healthy reserves, but we don’t want to drain it all down,” Koch said. “We have come up with a number of area of cuts.” Koch said he wants to avoid personnel cuts and would try to freeze overtime, hiring and look to cut fat from other places first.
