TCC enrollment drop among largest in the state - Amy Poulter, The Virginian-Pilot
The number of students enrolled in Virginia's community colleges has fallen by 16.4 percent since 2011, according to data from the State Council for Higher Education of Virginia. Tidewater Community College has fallen about 28 percent – the sixth-largest drop of the state's 23 community colleges. Why is the college among those experiencing the largest losses? Sharon Morrissey, vice chancellor for academic services and research at Virginia Community College Systems, said she’s not sure. “We’ve been asking the same question,” she said. The college recently pointed to enrollment declines as the source of financial woes. Since March, TCC has had two rounds of layoffs to help close an $8.5 million budget gap.
