Board looks for way to fill budget hole - PATRICK CLOONAN, Indiana Gazette

The Board of Governors of the 14-member Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education will need some more time to come up with a 2019-20 state appropriation request that fills an anticipated $44 million hole. The board will follow up on its public meeting held Thursday at Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a special session, likely to take place in Harrisburg but with conference calls, before an Oct. 31 deadline. That hole is in a proposed $2.3 billion budget. It has $1.714 billion for educational and general costs, 2.5 percent more than $1.688 billion projected for 2018-19 and 4 percent above $1.647 billion in the 2017-18 budget. PASSHE spokesman Kenn Marshall said that hole could be filled by budget cuts or tuition increases of up to 4.5 percent, saying each $10 million is equal to a 1 percent tuition hike. https://www.indianagazette.com/news/board-looks-for-way-to-fill-budget-hole/article_a0cdfd31-a08a-5c04-aa20-e598adda6efc.html
