The University of New Mexico is now addressing how to fill a funding gap caused by an enrollment shortfall. According to The Albuquerque Journal, this year the university was expecting a 2.5 percent drop in enrollment but instead saw a 7.2 percent drop. The vice provost for enrollment management and analytics told the Board of Regents that several factors contributed including fewer students being admitted. Officials say they now have to fill a nearly $10 million budget gap from a lack of tuition and fees.
