College president’s dismissal leaves taxpayers with hefty tab - Express-News Editorial Board
Missteps along the way can prove costly. That point was driven home by the multimillion-dollar jury decision earlier this month in a federal lawsuit brought by Lily Tercero, who left the budget office of the Alamo Colleges to become president of the Brownsville-based community college in 2011. She was a finalist for the presidency of Northeast Lakeview College in 2016. TSC officials defended their actions, claiming they had cause for Tercero’s dismissal in 2016, after five years on the job, and cited various shortcomings in her job performance. Tercero’s lawyer argued that the move was politically motivated, coming just three months after she was awarded a three-year employment contract extension and three months after the politics on the governing board changed following a trustee election.
