College affordability, attainment and economic prosperity are inseparable

Mark Schlissel, Crains Detroit If we want our state to be among the most prosperous in the nation, we have to be among the most educated. Two numbers illustrate my point: Michigan ranks 30th in the nation in per capita income and 35th in college attainment. The leaders of Michigan's public universities and I share the belief that affordability remains a major hurdle for Michigan residents who want to earn college degrees.
