Valpo’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in an adjustment of the university’s financial plan. Primarily, faculty and staff were affected the most by the repercussions of Valpo’s budget reevaluation, experiencing a reduction in wages and temporary furloughs. “[Rebudgeting] meant temporarily furloughing employees, it meant reducing the number of staff that we were employing, and it also meant that all of us, all of the employees at Valpo took a pay cut and our retirement was frozen for a year,” said Susan Scroggins, Valpo’s Senior Vice President for Finance and the Treasurer of the Board.
