Livingstone College to forgive more than $2.8M in debt of returning students - Andrew Barnett, WBTV

Livingstone College is set to forgive more than $2.8 million in debt for students who attended during the 2021 spring semester. The Livingstone College Debt Forgiveness Persistence Initiative (DFPI) will award more than $2.8 million in persistence grants to qualifying students of the spring 2021 semester who have outstanding student account balances. The university says this is in addition to the more than $4 million in need-based student aid Livingstone College already provides from its general operating budget each year.“The economic hardships created by the COVID-19 virus is unprecedented and has made it extremely difficult for students to pursue their dreams of obtaining a college education during this period of economic uncertainty,” said Livingstone President Dr. Jimmy R. Jenkins, Sr. in a letter to qualifying students.
