University budget deficit, net position improve - Alyssa Coker, Stephen F Austin University Pine Log

During that review, the University identified potential ways to benefit the budget deficit said Kruwell during the budget meeting. Those included: contingency expenditures, savings for the Voluntary Separation Enhancement Plan, “fairly good numbers” for spring revenues, housing revenues, investment revenues, changes in state funding regarding students and annual allotments to offset major student grants, such as the Hazelwood grant.  “Unfortunately, we project that we will miss…our mandatory tuition and fees, so that’s an addition back of almost a million dollars,” Kruwell said.  “We did budget for that 5% decrease from [Fiscal Year 2021,] and I think we came right in at budget in the fall. But our spring numbers, as we saw yesterday, are a little bit bigger of a decrease, so we’re seeing a 6% decline in our mandatory tuition and fee revenues.”
