No final decisions on cuts to university faculties to meet budget shortfall — acting provost - SARAH O'DONNELL AND SHEILA PRATT, EDMONTON JOURNAL

Students arriving on campus in the fall of 2014 will be the first to face major changes at the University of Alberta — fewer professors, cuts to courses and programs and possibly new fees to meet a 7.3-per-cent funding shortfall. This spring, all faculties will immediately cut their budgets by 1.5 per cent, administration will cut travel by 25 per cent and the university will run a temporary deficit, acting provost Martin Ferguson-Pell told reporters after a meeting with professors and staff Wednesday. The major organizational changes to save big dollars — as well as new ideas to raise more revenue — are still under preliminary discussion and won’t likely kick in for at least a year, said Ferguson-Pell. “We have to think of a transformational way to run a university,” Ferguson-Pell said. http://www.edmontonjournal.com/news/edmonton/final+decisions+cuts+university+faculties+meet+budget/8091470/story.html
