Chief budget writer for House seeking to cut UT regents’ spending authority - Ralph K.M. Haurwitz, American-Statesman

The chief budget writer for the Texas House stepped up his effort Friday to bring the governing board of the University of Texas to heel. Rep. Jim Pitts, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, filed two amendments to the proposed state budget for the next two years that would dramatically constrain spending authority for the UT System Board of Regents. Pitts, R-Waxahachie, told the American-Statesman earlier this week that he might seek to tighten the regents’ purse strings in a way that would bar them from commissioning an outside review of the UT Law School’s use of donated money. http://www.statesman.com/news/news/state-regional-govt-politics/chief-budget-writer-for-house-seeking-to-cut-ut-re/nW685/
