UMass Dartmouth discontinues funding 30 percent of Ocean Explorium budget - Matt Camara, South Coast Today
UMass Dartmouth has pulled its subsidy for the downtown Ocean Explorium, leaving the science education center scrambling to cover a loss amounting to almost a third of its budget. "It's significant — certainly a roadblock we need to overcome," Explorium Executive Director Abbey Spargo said Thursday. The university subsidizes the Explorium, this fiscal year to the tune of $300,000, 30 percent of its $1 million operating budget. A mass email to the university community from interim Provost Alex Fowler laid out the subsidy revocation along with a number of "budget realignment measures" Wednesday.
