University of Wisconsin System officials said Friday they will push the state to end employee furloughs next year and restore 2 percent raises taken away from faculty and staff. Michael Morgan, the system's new chief operating officer, told the Board of Regents the system will not propose a plan to help lagging university salaries catch up to those at rival schools. He cited the state's projected $2.5 billion budget shortfall for that decision, which comes just weeks after a UW System commission warned that salaries must be increased quickly to remain competitive.
