LRCC makes painful cuts - John Koziol, Citizen of Laconia

The plan set forth includes not filling three open positions and eliminating the Workforce Development Office as well as a full-time security position and three part-time maintenance positions, the Evening Office, and program coordinators. Reductions are slated for the operation of the Learning Center; supplies; out-of-state travel; staff development; institutional and culinary food; overtime; and equipment. “Factoring in the additional money we will have to pay to Employment Security as a result of layoffs, these actions will bring our budget into balance IF we can achieve the same enrollment as last year,” said Edelstein. Earlier in his e-mail, he noted that enrollment increased only 1 percent in 2010-2011 and that the prospects were not looking good for the coming year.
