Southern University New Orleans looks to trim more than $2.6 million dollars in costs from its budget through layoffs, unfilled vacancies and retirement. "The impact we are taking from these cuts has been tremendous", said Chancellor Victor Ukpolo. " The largest portion of the savings will come from 17 faculty and staff vacancies that the university says it will not fill. That alone makes up $838,337 for the upcoming fiscal year. SUNO will save another $716,146 by laying off 7 staff members and three other employees retire.
