Kiah Stokes And UConn Students Protest Budget Cuts - Christopher Keating, Hartford Courant

Kiah Stokes is well known to Connecticut sports fans as a star player on the University of Connecticut's championship women's basketball team. But on Tuesday night, Stokes was another UConn student in the crowd who was protesting Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's proposed budget cuts at a public hearing in front of legislators at the state Capitol complex. There is no easy fix and tough choices will have to be made, but doling out raises to all employees and appointees severely lacked commonsense and was not one of those "tough" choices. Stokes appeared on a three-member panel from the university's honors program, where she has achieved a 4.0 average. She told legislators that she will be graduating with honors this year in part because her teachers "work with my schedule'' that includes traveling around the country and missing classes while playing basketball games. http://www.courant.com/politics/capitol-watch/hc-kiah-stokes-and-uconn-students-protest-budget-cuts-20150224-story.html
