Eastern Michigan, Oakland officials defend big tuition hikes as lawmakers debate state funding - Jonathan Oosting, MLive

Eastern Michigan and Oakland University officials on Thursday defended tuition increases that exceeded a state-imposed cap and cost each school more than $1 million in state funding. "Do you have any other plans to blow by the cap?" state Sen. Tonya Schuitmaker, R-Lawton, asked during a joint meeting House and Senate subcommittees on higher education appropriations. "It really doesn't work if every four years you have two or three universities blow by it. That's really not what it was intended for." http://www.mlive.com/lansing-news/index.ssf/2015/09/eastern_michigan_oakland_offic.html
