Missouri must adjust community college funding - News-Leader Editorial Board
Certain industries in Springfield are desperate for workers. Our hospitals need nurses. Our trucking companies need diesel technicians. Almost every student who completes corresponding programs at Ozarks Technical Community College walks directly into one of those careers. Springfield’s poverty rate hovers around 25 percent. We have in-demand careers with effective programs that prepare people for those careers that should pull families out of poverty. So what’s the problem? OTC, the institution that can provide the training to give people careers that improve their financial outlook, can’t keep up, and it’s not for a lack of trying.
