Missouri Southern abandons dental school project - Emily Younker, Joplin Globe
Missouri Southern State University has dropped all plans for a long-desired dental school that would have operated on its campus in partnership with the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Talks toward the project had been going on since about 2010, with MSSU even preparing for the installation of the dental school recently by freeing up part of the Leon Health Sciences Building for the program. The two universities jointly requested state money for the project in fiscal year 2017, but most of that funding was subsequently withheld. Since then, funding from the state has not been available for the project, which originally came with a request of $3 million for MSSU and $1.5 million for UMKC.
